The Gamo people are remarkably rich with century’s old known handicrafts. Each of the different ethnic groups in the Gamo area has indigenous knowledge of creating diverse traditional handcrafts for various purposes. Weaving and pottery are the commo n handcrafts practiced in most areas. Weaving is a primary profession for many Gamo people though out the highlands. This skill is widespread to different parts of the region and country.

The hand made products of weavers are totally produced from pure cotton, through local process of spinning, coloring and weaving. The colorful and traditional cloth called Dunguza is a well-known product including Natala, Gabe and Buluko. Dorze locality is a best palace to meet the weavers. These weavers are also well known nationally at Addis Ababa, Shiro Meda for their large number of Shema (traditional cloth) shop and weaving centers.
