Gimo is one of the well-known cultural ceremonies in the Gamo Zone Boreda area. It is ceremony which gives social recognition to distinct women. The recognized woman’s receive the name “Gimame”, a name given for their honor. Gimames are influential in the community, for their large cattle heads, extended families, number of grandchildren and front line peacemaking responsibility in the society. Most of the time the ceremony takes place in winter seasons on market days.

With the vast participation of women in the society, elders open the ceremony and announce the beginning, followed by eating, drinking, and singing to end on recognizing the Gimame’s.
