Forty springs are found in the groundwater forest of Arbaminch, which is supported by a high water table and with numerous springs along the western escarpment of the park. The name of “Arbaminch” town is derived from the forty magnificent springs which bubble up naturally from inside the ground. The literal meaning of the name of Arbaminch in Amharic is forty spring “Arba” means forty and “Minch” means springs. The forty springs are easily accessible from the headquarters’ of the park. It is about 3 km from the gate of the park and the path is covered with dense forest. While you are walking through this path you have a chance to look at different mammals and bird species. If you have an interest, it is possible to swim in the pure natural swimming pool created by the running water of forty springs. The drinking water supply of Arbaminch town is from these springs.
